Praslin's public transport is limited. A rental car gives you the freedom to visit Vallée de Mai when the morning light is perfect, reach Anse Lazio before the day trips arrive, and return to your patio at Tourterelle whenever it suits you — not when a minibus schedule says so.
Getting Around Praslin
Praslin's main roads are well maintained and the island is small enough that you can drive from one end to the other in about 45 minutes. Most attractions are clearly signposted. Driving is on the left side of the road, and the relaxed pace of island life extends to the roads — traffic is light, and fellow drivers are generally unhurried and courteous.
A standard driving licence from most countries is accepted; Explorer Cars can advise on any specific requirements. Grand Anse itself has a supermarket, restaurants, and a pharmacy within easy walking distance of Tourterelle, but having a car opens up the whole island: the ferry jetty at Baie Sainte Anne (9 km), the coral gardens at Anse Volbert, the UNESCO-listed forest of Vallée de Mai, and a string of beaches that justify every superlative ever written about them.
